Christmas Necrons Work In ProgressUpdated December 2011
Click on the large images to go to my Flickr page if you wish to leave a comment about my models. In 2008, I came up with the idea of making some Necron warriors wearing Santa hats just for fun as a display piece on the run up to Christmas. After making the first one, I thought I would have a go at making an entire squad of Christmas themed warriors, each one being different. Now, I intend building an entire army of Necrons with a Christmassy winter theme eventually, however I will be quite slow at building them. Click on the thumbnail images to jump to more information on the construction process for that Christmas themed Necron.
Christmas Themed Necron Warrior 2010 Work In ProgressThe first Christmas themed figure I completed in 2008 was just a basic Necron warrior built straight from the box, but with the addition of a Santa hat made using Green Stuff (an epoxy modelling putty produced by Games Workshop). This one is again being built straight from the box, but also has a scarf made from Green Stuff in addition to the Santa hat.I shall put up a tutorial on how to make the Santa hat with step by step pictures at a future point, but it basically starts with a small blob of Green Stuff attached to the head and the scarf started with a sausage of Green Stuff wrapped around the neck joint before attaching the head. Using the left over Green Stuff, I made a quick little snake curled up, which can be seen in the above picture. I haven't decided exactly what I'm going to do with it yet, so I welcome people's suggestions.
Back to Top of Page Christmas Themed Necron Warrior and Snow-cron Flayed One 2011 Work In ProgressFor 2011 I decided to make two Christmassy Necrons. The original idea behind these Necrons was that a warrior was making a snow Necron (or snow-cron for short). This involved making new hands that were reaching forward and also needed the snow-cron to have arms that looked like sticks. The first picture below shows the torso and legs of a basic Necron Warrior assembled as standard and in front can be seen two left arms taken from the Necron warriors kit. The ball joint fot the shoulder on one of these will be careful cut off and repositioned to allow the left arm to become a right arm. Placed on the figure's base so that they can be seen against the white background are two small pieces of 1mm thick plasticard that will be used to form the new hands. Finally, on the right of the image, can be seen what will become the stick arms for the snow-cron. These are made from some thin wire twisted to a basic shape which have then been covered with Green Stuff modelling putty in an attempt to create the effect of two pieces of a tree branch.
The second picture shows the Necron warrior with the arms attached and after that are pictures of the final figures before basing and painting commences. The snow-cron consists of a warriors head and torso attached to a post which has been smoothed to shape using Green Stuff to resemble a mound of snow. The Necron symbol detail on the chest has been carefully filed away so that there isn't as much fine detail to further the effect that it's made from snow. The stick arms are only held in by the Green Stuff that is filling in the socket for the arms. Next time, I shall attempt to drill a fine hole into the torso and glue the wire ends in to make them more secure before adding the Green Stuff around them.
